Welcome to the Samish Neighborhood!

The Samish Neighborhood is located to the east of I-5 in the Southeast corner of Bellingham. It is bordered by Consolidation Street to the North, I-5 to the West and South, and Racine Street to the East. The heavily wooded areas and picturesque views make this a peaceful and quiet place to live. Residents can enjoy walks around Lake Padden or Ridgemont parks, playing a round at the golf course, or walks with the dog at the dog park.
The Samish Neighborhood Plan details resident’s desires to maintain the natural beauty of the area. Proximity to I-5 and Sehome Village let the residents live in a secluded neighborhood while enjoying the convenience of nearby shopping and amenities.

Comments on a Proposed Fireworks Ban

Clay Butler is heading a movement to ban fireworks in the city of Bellingham. He is going around and talking to various neighborhood associations to get their support. He has also started a blog and an online petition to let people share their opinions on the issue. Here are some of their comments:

Date Change for Golf Tour Events

The 2-Person Scramble has been changed to March 12th because of weather delays. This event costs $15.00 per person plus the Green Fee and starts at anytime during the day. Two person teams hit their tee shots, choose the best drive, and then both players hit from there.

The WGT Finale and WGT Individual Stroke Play and Tour Skins Game have been changed to March 26. Both events will happen at the same time, the finale for those who qualify and the skins game for those who do not. 9:00 AM shotgun start. Contact the golf course for more information.

And the award goes to...

To find out who won the first annual Samish Select Award, come to the general Samish neighborhood meeting in mid-March at the Elks Lodge, at 710 S. Samish Way.

According to the Samish Neighborhood Association website, nominees “Preserve/enhance the character of the Samish neighborhood, promote a cohesive neighborhood community, provide leadership, and provide a healthy business community.”

These general meetings occur every six months and are open to the public anytime, even though board meetings are also open to the public.

Coming Up! Winter Golf Tour Event

Even though my kind of golf includes windmills and open-mouthed clowns, a competitive golf tournament sounds like it could be fun, especially if I can bring my own cheering section!

This Saturday, Feb. 5, Lake Padden Golf Course is hosting the Winter 5-Man, a Winter Golf Tour event. This is one of the tour's three major events and is expected to draw 80 to 100 people out into the sun.

In this game, the person with the "choker" ball has even more pressure to perform because their score counts for half of the team score.

Each 5-man team, hence the name, can have four amateurs and one professional. (I call Tiger Woods!) Everyone gets 100 participation points that will count towards the total points at the end of the tour. This event is $60 per person or $300 per team.
